The founders have been in the data industry since the 1979 and have over 75 years of collective experience. Our pricing depends on quantity and on the selects you choose on output. So, the more data you purchase, the cheaper it will be…and you’ll pay a bit more for a highly targeted list than for our general business or consumer file. Due to the costs of compilation, licensing fees, data hygiene maintenance, and processing costs, we have a minimum purchase price of $750.

Will I be able to use the mailing list more than once?

In order to maintain the integrity of our data, we must limit the use of our mailing lists. You can purchase a multiple-use mailing list if you intend to do multiple mailing campaigns, but at a slightly higher price. Be wary of any list company who will sell you a list without these types of use restrictions. Their data is often “beat up” and this will show in your response. Almost 20 percent of America has some kind of change in their contact information every year. Not only will an old and beat up list produce lower response rates but it will also waste lots of postage on undeliverable mail. US Data Corporation compiles and updates data freshly, all day and every day. The amount of data hygiene we perform so far exceeds industry norms that we are often accused of overkill. Even on lists acquired for multiple use we require our clients to update their files monthly to act in accordance with the National Do-Not-Call Registry Guidelines. Every time you call a person on the Do-Not-Call Registry, you could be fined up to $11,000, so it is in everyone’s best interest to keep your list updated and clean.

What sort of information will I receive with each mailing list record?

The short answer is “every list is different”. Generally, we have a set of base “selects” that come with every file and additional selects can be added for an additional charge. Our General Consumer file, Mortgage Database and Timeshare Database come with Name and Address. Our General Business List file comes with Company Name, Address, SIC Code, SIC Code Description, Key Decision Maker Name and Phone. If you are purchasing a Specialty Mailing List or you are interested in more than what comes with the base list price, please ask your list expert to go over what additional selects are available and what the pricing is for each. It is our goal to set your expectations correctly from the start so you don’t feel you’ve been led astray.

Do you guarantee your data?

Mailing Lists RoundtableBuying a mailing list is often a confusing and cumbersome experience. There are many list brokers out there and it’s hard to find one that you can trust. Are they a genuine company or just some guy in his garage selling the same names and addresses over and over again? Do they offer fresh and productive lists or will they blow dust off of an old CD-ROM and copy/paste 5-year-old data for you? Mailing list cost is a fairly large investment and a good portion of your overall marketing budget but it is only a fraction of what you’ll spend on printing and postage when you use the list. This leads to the other decision – do I spend more per record on a mailing list that is said to outperform other mailing lists, or do I get a cheaper mailing list and just hope to get good results? If you have gone through this thought process, you’re not alone.

In my experience, there is an art to buying mailing lists. First, you have to do your homework. Call around to different mailing list companies. Talk to the so-called “list experts” and see what kind of knowledge they really have. After all, it is better to collaborate with a mailing list expert as opposed to just buying what you think will work. List brokers deal with mailing lists all day long and they see what works and what doesn’t for their other clients. An experienced list broker is very likely to have already had experience with the mailing list that you’re interested in and they should have suggestions or ideas on how to improve your results. Don’t purchase a list blindly – considering the high cost of postage and printing/mailing services, you want your mail pieces to be delivered – and to the right target audience. (more…)
